A Constrained Least Squares Approach to Mobile Positioning: Algorithms and Optimality

چکیده
The problem of locating a mobile terminal has received significant attention in the field of wireless communications. Time-ofarrival (TOA), received signal strength (RSS), time-difference-of-arrival (TDOA), and angle-of-arrival (AOA) are commonly used measurements for estimating the position of the mobile station. In this paper, we present a constrained weighted least squares (CWLS) mobile positioning approach that encompasses all the above described measurement cases. The advantages of CWLS include performance optimality and capability of extension to hybrid measurement cases (e.g., mobile positioning using TDOA and AOA measurements jointly). Assuming zero-mean uncorrelated measurement errors, we show by mean and variance analysis that all the developed CWLS location estimators achieve zero bias and the Cramér-Rao lower bound approximately whenmeasurement error variances are small. The asymptotic optimum performance is also confirmed by simulation results.

Exact and approximate solutions of fuzzy LR linear systems: New algorithms using a least squares model and the ABS approach
We present a methodology for characterization and an approach for computing the solutions of fuzzy linear systems with LR fuzzy variables. As solutions, notions of exact and approximate solutions are considered. We transform the fuzzy linear system into a corresponding linear crisp system and a constrained least squares problem. If the corresponding crisp system is incompatible, then the fuzzy ...
متن کاملSuperlinearly convergent exact penalty projected structured Hessian updating schemes for constrained nonlinear least squares: asymptotic analysis
We present a structured algorithm for solving constrained nonlinear least squares problems, and establish its local two-step Q-superlinear convergence. The approach is based on an adaptive structured scheme due to Mahdavi-Amiri and Bartels of the exact penalty method of Coleman and Conn for nonlinearly constrained optimization problems. The structured adaptation also makes use of the ideas of N...

متن کاملA least-squares approach to joint Schur decomposition
We address the problem of joint Schur decomposition (JSD) of several matrices. This problem is of great importance for many signal processing applications such as sonar, biomedicine, and mobile communications. We rst present a least-squares (LS) approach for computing the JSD. The LS approach is shown to coincide with that proposed intuitively by Haardt et al, thus establishing the optimality o...
متن کاملSpoofing Mitigation of GPS Receiver using Least Mean Squares-Based Adaptive Filter
The Global Positioning System (GPS) signals are very weak signal over wireless channels, so they are vulnerable to in-band interferences. Therefore, even a low-power interference can easily spoof GPS receivers. Among the variety of GPS signal interference, spoofing is considered as the most dangerous intentional interference. The spoofing effects can mitigate with an appropriate strategy in the...
